Resistance Alloys
Unsure of which material would be best suited for your application? Hyndman has a variety of alloys to choose from and the knowledge to suggest the best alloy for your project.
Resistance wire can be classified as Iron Chrome Aluminum (FeCrAl), Nickel Chrome (NiCr), Copper Nickel (CuNi), and Nickel Iron (NiFe) alloys. If your application demands extremely high temperatures, an Iron Chrome Aluminum alloy may be the best choice, where as if your application requires the wire to maintain sufficient mechanical strength at temperature, Nickel Chrome may be a better option. Each alloy type has something different to offer.
Iron Chrome Aluminum (FeCrAl) alloys are high-resistance materials typically used in applications with maximum operating temperatures up to 1,400°C (2,550°F).
Common alloys include: KAPM, KA1, KAF, KD, ALK
Nickel Chrome (NiCr) alloys are high-resistance materials typically used in applications with maximum operating temperatures up to 1,250°C (2,280°F).
Common alloys include: N4, N6, N7, N8
Copper Nickel (CuNi) alloys are medium to low resistance materials typically used in applications with maximum operating temperatures up to 400°C (750°F).
Common alloys include: A30, A90, A180, 294
Nickel Iron (NiFe) alloys are low-resistance materials typically used in applications with maximum operating temperatures up to 600°C (1,110°F).
Common alloys include: A120, A52
